Evertis has supported the Alternativas Pacíficas Art workshop, aiming to assist women who were victims of violence. The workshop provides a safe space where participants can begin to recognise the violence they experienced, understand its impact, and start their healing journey with psychosocial and legal assistance.
This project aims to empower women by helping them develop essential skills through a series of targeted workshops. Participants acquire practical tools and knowledge to break the cycle of violence and build a more stable and self-sufficient future. A key aspect of this initiative was a painting workshop, which offered a therapeutic space for at least 11 women to express their emotions through art, aiding their emotional healing. This process enabled the women to channel their emotions and experiences into their art, using basic techniques selected by each participant.
The skills and confidence gained from participating in these workshops helped the women to see new possibilities for their futures.
Testimony of a woman participating in the workshop:
“I didn't know that there were institutions that helped women, let alone gave them shelter. I came to Alternativas because I had to leave my home. I didn't have a phone, so I told a neighbour about my situation, and she told me about this place. (...)
Here at the shelter, I received psychological care, it helped me a lot, I needed to be listened to and given information on how to proceed and advice. . (...) They treated me and my son very well, they gave us clothes, a room, toiletries. When my son got sick, he was taken care of. (...) It only remains for me to thank you all for all the help received, and for believing in me, thank you because everything has helped me. I'm going and I'm going ready. Thank you.“
The impact of these workshops extended beyond the women themselves; it also positively affected their children, who indirectly benefited from their mothers improved emotional wellbeing. As the women found a creative outlet to express their emotions, they became more relaxed and patient, which had a positive effect to their relationships with their children and improved the overall atmosphere in their homes.
