At Evertis, we are committed to developing packaging solutions that improve compatibility with existing recycling systems and support the transition toward a circular economy. Today, we are pleased to share a significant milestone in this journey: the APR validation of our EcoSeal™ product.
Packaging, and in particular blister packaging, widely used across healthcare, personal care, and consumer goods applications, has traditionally relied on materials like PVC, which are not accepted in most recycling systems. To solve this, we developed Ecoseal™, a PET-based sealing solution engineered to enable blister formats that better align with PET recycling systems.
In 2025, we submitted EcoSeal™ to the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Design® for Recyclability Recognition Program for evaluation under the PET thermoform recycling protocol.
Following testing and technical review, APR confirmed that EcoSeal™ is compatible with PET thermoform recycling streams under the program’s criteria.
The evaluation also identified opportunities for continued optimization, particularly regarding color performance, which Evertis is actively working to improve.
This recognition represents an important step toward improving the recyclability profile of blister packaging formats
With 54% of U.S. consumers now having access to PET thermoform recycling (per the PET Recycling Coalition), EcoSeal™ offers:
Improved Recycling Compatibility
An improvement over traditional PVC blister materials that cannot enter PET recycling streams.
Mono-Material Design Potential
The ability to create PET-based blister packaging structures by sealing PET cavities with PET lids.
Practical Transition Path
A solution that allows brands to begin improving packaging recyclability today while the recycling system continues to expand.
Evertis continues to optimize the EcoSeal™ formulation with the goal of achieving APR “Preferred” design status.
Based on this APR recognition, packaging using EcoSeal™ may qualify for the How2Recycle® “Check Locally” label when brands submit the APR letter together with their packaging specifications.
This reflects the current availability of PET thermoform recycling streams in the United States, which are accessible to approximately 54% of the population and continuing to expand.
If you would like to explore how EcoSeal™ could support your packaging sustainability goals, the Evertis team would be happy to discuss potential applications and testing.
